According to Annual Digest, upon the implementation of the Harmonisation of Pre-primary Services on 1 September 2005, the definition of child care centres has been re-defined as service for children aged 0 to 3. All day nurseries (serving children aged 2 to 6) and day nursery-cum-day crèches (serving children 0 to 6) have been converted into kindergarten-cum-child care centres under the monitoring of the Education and Manpower Bureau. Meanwhile, the provision of child care centres, special child care centres and residential child care centres remain under the monitoring of the Social Welfare Department. Thus, from 2006 onwards, figures of this indicator are calculated by summing up
(1) the no. of enrolment in kindergarten (Annual Digest 12.5) ;
(2) the estimated no. of places in Subvented/aided/gov't Day Centre (2-3 yr) & Residential Child Care Centre (0-6 yr), Non-profit-making Residential Child Care Centre (0-6 yr), private Day Centre (2-3 yr) & Residential Child Care Centre (0-6 yr)
