Background

Social Development Index (SDI) is aimed at measuring social development in Hong Kong through establishing an objective and scientific sound system of indicators. While the Index is constructed based on a selected set of a few dozens indicators, the whole project is backed by a large databank of social statistics, consisting of about 400 social indicators grouped into different development domains or population groups. For the purpose of this Website, the domain framework of SDI databank has been slightly modified to arrive at the following 16 development domains:

Basic Statistics Strength of Civil Society Political Participation Internationalization Economic Environmental Quality Arts and Entertainment Sports and Recreation
Science and Technology Education Health Personal Safety Housing Crime and Public Safety Family Solidarity Employment and Income Security
