Project Aims
- To harness a theoretically and methodologically well-grounded framework and set of measurement dimensions and indicators for a continuous monitoring of the quality of life and society in Hong Kong.
- To facilitate policy advocates to make informed opinions and suggestions regarding the improvement of social well being in Hong Kong.
Project Background
- A conceptual framework suggested by the Centre for Survey Research and Methodology (ZUMA)’s European System of Social Indicators (EUSI) is adopted.
- Localizing the conceptual framework, a set of HK social indicators are identified based on the concepts in the framework. Springing from the core welfare concepts of the framework, i.e. Quality of Life, Social Cohesion, and Sustainability are some Goal Dimensions, which further operationally branching out many Measurement Dimensions correspondingly. The indicators identified will be contributing to these Measurement Dimensions, thereby indicating how the goals of Quality of Life, Social Cohesion, and Sustainability are achieved.
Project Objectives
- To collect secondary social statistics and group them into different domains and dimensions of the conceptual framework to measure the social well-being in Hong Kong
- To construct internationally comparable social indicators under different domains and dimensions
- To disseminate the statistics and related findings to the public
- To identify data gaps of social statistics in Hong Kong
